I used to love going to Snobs about 15 years ago when the indie scene was at it's most fervent? It was one of the only nightclubs in town that you could get in wearing 'baked beans' and 'gloria gaynors'. Plus if you were lucky you could get into 'Athens' next door after 2am!

Do they still have an indie room and an 80's room?

Snooty Fox in Solihull and upstairs to Scandals where one of my Ex-girlfriends spent a night trying to fend off Frank Worthington - she failed ;)

We'd been going out for about 2 Months when she said " Mark, I have something to tell you, I've slept with Frank Worthington"

She couldn't believe it when I told her I thought it was fantastic and asked her to get back in touch for an autographed shirt ;)

It never lasted ! <_<

Didn't we all?

One night on the steps i called the girl i was with 'claire' instead of 'tracey' (claire being her best friends name coincedently enough?) and as a result of the ensuing furious wrath i headbutted one of those faces, or one of those faces headbutted me?

I think the last time i went there was about 8 years ago and they played 'Girl from Mars' in the indie room and it all just went mental? Beer, cigarettes, bottles of hooch and some little fella called 'jock', got thrown about all over the place. It was then that i realised that i was too old for it all.

i was dragged in there once, the only thing i can remember was the floor being covered in some tar like substance, i'm surprised i didnt see any dead mammoths on the floor wtf**

wasnt my cuppa tea, i was actually embarrassed for the people who did the "guitar-strumming" dance.

it was probbaly the most awkward night of my life

Boy ...is this a memory jogger ??

Are we talking about the SAME Snobs that was on the Queensway opposite the Town Hall and Alpha Tower..........Crikey I was going there in 1977

PTTS.....I remember Scandals in Solihull

Eddie Fewtrell and his brothers used to run a few Brum nightclubs.........Rebecca's became Boogies and there was Boogies Brasserie on the corner..........across the street was Edwards Number Seven and Number Eight .....around the corner was The Paramount

And there was Barbarellas .......saw some classic bands there (early Cockney Rebel,Rufus/Chaka Kahn and Average White Band) plus Blondie and Roxy Music

Don't forget the Cedar Club (a right dump).........anyone remember Sloopys and Holy City Zoo (The Zoo had another name before,on the tip of my tounge) ????

Romeo and Juliet's used to be the Dolce Vita and later became Pagoda Park .......acroos Smallbrook Queensway wasn't there a fancy joint named 'Thursdays' ..........Strange really 'cause it was open on Fridays and Saturdays too

Keep them coming, lads and lasses............anyone old enough to admit to going to the Top Rank on Dale End.........I'm not ashamed to admit it........had my 24 inch wide bellbottoms on AND 6 inch heels and after a couple of close dances with those darling young Brummie 'birds' went home on the Night Service (pie in hand) a happy young man.........you knew your luck was in when the DJ played Marvin's 'Let's Get In On' and Eddie Holman's 'Hey There Lonely Girl' .........but your luck was out if it was Donny Osmond's 'Puppy Love '............(cringe :( :( )

BTW ....is Liberty's on Hagely Road still there ??..........I remember that bulding was once the old 'Romulus'

Faces and Chaplins at Five Ways

The Rum Rummer (old Broad St) ...think that was where Duran Duran first played gigs before hitting the big time

Can't forget Pollyannas (Newhall St) either.........Oh ! The Zoo used to be Le Metro (another right dump)

:o @ partisan - my god, talk about memory jogging, i used to go to ALL of those from time to time. the cedar club i remember staggering out of at 5am and hitching a lift home with the milkman!!
elbow room in arston/newtown anybody, if we're talking about dumps and dives ?
i was hoping all the memories attached to those places were consigend to the "deleted" file in my brain.....
over-riding memory of the locarno was getting beat up by the bouncers when my mate kicked over one of those unpheasibly tall ashtrays - every time we tried to get out up the stairs, they battered us back down again, that was a long night... <_<
